Franchise FAQ

Marsh Water Damage Restoration has been restoring homes since 2005 as part of the Threshold Group family. If you’re considering opening a location, these are the questions we hear most often from prospective owners. We answer them the same way we price a job: straight, specific, and in writing.

Common Questions

Do I need restoration experience to open a Marsh location?

No prior restoration experience is required, but it helps. What matters more is that you can run a local business, manage a team, and hold people to a standard. The technical training comes from us. What you bring is the willingness to show up, answer the phone, and treat every homeowner the way you’d want a crew treating your own family.

What does the total investment range look like?

The total investment varies by market, build-out, and equipment package, but prospective owners should plan for a meaningful six-figure commitment. That covers your initial equipment fleet from Dri-Eaz, Phoenix, XPOWER, B-Air, and Injectidry, vehicle wraps, the drying and extraction inventory, and your first months of operating capital. We walk through a detailed itemized breakdown early in the process so there are no surprises after you sign.

Is financing available?

Marsh does not provide financing directly, but we can connect you with third-party lenders familiar with the restoration franchise model. Many owners use a combination of SBA-backed loans, personal capital, and equipment financing. We do expect you to arrive with enough liquidity to carry the business through ramp-up. A restoration business builds on reputation, and reputation takes a little time.

Do I get protected territory or exclusivity?

Each Marsh location operates within a defined service area that’s mapped before you sign your agreement. That territory is yours to work, market, and grow without another Marsh location opening inside it. The service area is sized to what a single crew can realistically cover while still answering every call with a live person, which is the standard we refuse to bend on.

How long does training take?

Initial training runs several weeks and combines classroom-style technical instruction with field time alongside a working restoration crew. You learn water extraction, structural drying, moisture mapping, mold remediation protocols, and the documentation process. Because every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, the training is not a box-checking exercise. It’s where you learn why the Threshold Standard exists and how to enforce it.

What are the ongoing fees and royalties?

There is a royalty and a brand fund contribution, both calculated as a percentage of gross revenue. The percentages are disclosed in the Franchise Disclosure Document, and they fund the things a single owner should not have to build alone: national vendor relationships, proprietary training updates, and the systems behind the Threshold Verified program. There are no hidden fees, and no fee we cannot explain in one sentence.

How long does it take to open once I sign?

Most owners open their doors within three to six months of signing. That timeline includes territory finalization, equipment ordering, vehicle wraps, hiring your first crew, and completing the training program. Build-out time varies depending on whether you lease an existing industrial space or need modest construction. We would rather open a month later with the standard intact than a month early without it.

What support does Marsh provide after I open?

Support includes ongoing technical training, marketing materials, access to the equipment supply chain, and a franchise support line that reaches a real person. The Threshold Verified protocol is constantly updated as industry standards change. You are never left alone to figure out a difficult loss. When a big storm or flooding event hits your territory, the wider network knows how to support a spike in calls.

What kind of person makes a strong Marsh owner?

The best owners are disciplined, protective of their reputation, and comfortable with the physical reality of restoration work. You do not have to run every extraction job yourself, but you do have to understand the work well enough to know when it is done right. The homeowners we serve are often choosing us because they are nervous about who is inside their house. If that concern resonates with you, if you think about it the way a homeowner thinks about it, you will fit here.

What is the next step if I’m interested?

Call us and ask your questions directly. You will get a conversation with a person, not a chatbot, not a voicemail tree. We will talk about your market, your background, and whether the timing works. If it does, we will send you the Franchise Disclosure Document and schedule a time to talk through the numbers line by line.

Still Have Questions?

The best next step is a conversation. Call (910) 613-6568 and ask the questions that matter to your situation, your market, and your family. If forms are easier, submit the one below and we will call you back within one business day.
